Fresno, CA - This weekend marked another pivotal moment in Michael Maher’s bid to unseat career politician Jim Costa. On Saturday, Maher received a warm welcome from hundreds of families and fellow veterans in the Raisin Capital of the World, Dinuba, where he participated in the historic Raisin Day Parade. While Maher’s congressional opponent, Jim Costa, sped through the parade in a car, Maher walked, personally engaging with the entire community. This parade, which began in 1908, travels through the heart of Dinuba. Maher joined the Dinuba Fire Department, the Dinuba High School Emperors Marching Band, and other bands from neighboring communities in celebrating this rich tradition.
Then on Sunday, Maher’s commitment to standing up for human rights was fully displayed during an exclusive tour of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Fresno. Maher is a strong advocate for the Sikh and Hindu communities in their ongoing fight for courage and truth, and was recently honored with the prestigious Shaheed Jaswant Singh Khalra plaque for bravery. In a statement, Maher said, “I’ve spent my life serving our community and our country, not just sitting in a seat. District 21 needs a leader ready to roll up their sleeves, cut through the red tape, and truly fight for the Valley’s best interests. It’s time for fresh leadership that knows how to get things done.”
Continuing his campaign efforts, Maher’s team also launched a new TV ad that takes direct aim at Congressman Jim Costa’s lengthy and ineffective political career. Costa started out in politics in the early 1970s, working in Congress back in Washington, D.C. during Joe Biden’s first-ever term in elected office. He has spent over 50 years in politics, with the last 20 years as a member of Congress. He had the audacity to call for President Biden to "pass the torch" to Kamala Harris when he started in politics during the same time period. In contrast, Maher brings a fresh perspective as a business owner, Navy veteran, and former FBI Special Agent, focused on creating jobs and lowering the cost of living for Valley families.
